Due to the increase in population, most of the sewage treatment plants get challenged with hydraulic and shock loads. The pollutants in domestic wastewater not only arise from domestic and food service functions, but also from some home industries and small-scale industrial units. It is practically impossible to control the varied nature of the wastewater entering the treatment plants. The operators find it very difficult to run a stable plant while discharging water conforming to tight norms.

Currently a lot of energy is spent in providing the dissolved oxygen to the generic microbes, without getting the desired results. Though it is known that the biodegradation is done by the biomass, very little attention is given to control the type of bacteria that dominates the treatment system. It is not only how many bacteria but also the type and functionality of the bacteria that is very important in a sewage treatment plant. Several times chemical treatment approaches have been taken for remediation of sewage treatment plants and for clearing collection lines but they all have disadvantages. The solution for all these problems can be approached using advanced biotechnology developed by Ativa Biosciences. Bioclean® STP is formulated to handle very diverse type of sewage, so that the effluent treatment plant works efficiently without any upsets.

Features of Bioclean
® STP
Bioclean® STP is available in dry concentrate bacterial formulations, specially designed to provide improved waste degradation in sewage treatment. Each gram of the product contains up to 4 billion microbes. There are up to 58 different strains of bacteria in each gram of Bioclean® STP product, which can biodegrade very diverse types of molecules.

BiocleanTM STP Sewage Treatment Plants
Bioclean® STP has been used in compact Bio-engineered Decentralized Sewage Treatment Plants with astounding success. Discharge water of BOD of 6 ppm is achieved in these plants, while the operational cost is half that of conventional plants. In most cases the water is

Advanced features of Bioclean® STP Sewage Treatment Plants

  • Lowest consumption of electricity.
  • Outlet BOD of less than 10 ppm.
  • Very less space utilisation.
  • Low operational and maintenance cost.
  • Very less sludge generation.
  • Treated water can be reused.
  • No odour in and around the plant.
  • Plant stabilised within three weeks of commissioning.
  • Hassle free and easy to operate plants.
  • Low capital investment.
  Benefits of Bioclean®STP

  • Upto 95% reduction in BOD & 90% reduction in COD load.
  • Consist of various specialized digestive strains for organic waste degradation of even difficult to degrade compounds.
  • Can handle shock loads.
  • Can handle hydraulic loads, thus saves cost on extra land requirement and capital cost for the new construction.
  • Seeding a new STP with Bioclean® STP reduces the commissioning time to a great extent, without any problems.
  • Cultures grow in either the presence or absence of oxygen.
  • Low treatment cost. Increases efficiency of the sewage treatment plant and saves energy costs.
  • Odour control because of complete biodegradation of organic compounds.
  • Generates minimum sludge as most of the waste is converted to carbon dioxide and water.
  • Sewage treated with Bioclean® STP can be reused for irrigation purposes or recharging ground water.
  • Non-corrosive, non-pathogenic and low quantities of use, making it safe and easy to handle and store.
  • Results meet criteria for new PCB norms. Little or no design or process modifications required.
  Applications of Bioclen® STP

  • Sewage Treatment Plants
  • Municipal sewer systems
  • Drain lines
  • Hotels and Restaurants

  Case Studies of Bioclean® STP

Case Study - 01
Plant : Bio-engineered Sewage treatment plant.
Location : Karunya University, Coimbatore.
Flow per day : 540 cubic meters.
Inlet BOD : 340 to 480 ppm.
Outlet BOD : 6 to 7 ppm.
Economics : Treatment cost comes to Rs. 2.40 per 1000 liters of effluent per day.
Remarks :

This whole STP was designed on the concept of bioengineering based on Bioclean STP. This plant can treat more than 540 cubic meter of sewage per day using only 9 HP of power. The outlet BOD is in the range of 4 to 6 ppm. All the treated water is being used by the farmers residing in the nearby areas on their farms for irrigation. After the Bioclean STP treatment the total coliform count has gone down by 93 % as compared to the inlet. The area used for this STP is less than 200 meters.

Case Study - 02
Plant : Bio-engineered Sewage treatment plant.
Location : Sulur Small Tank, Palladam Taluk, Coimbatore District.
Flow per day : 600 cubic meters.
Inlet BOD : 520 ppm.
Outlet BOD : 8 ppm.
Inlet Oil & Grease : 10 to 20 ppm.
Outlet Oil & Grease : Traces.
Inlet Total Coliform : 100000 MPN/100ml.
Outlet Total Coliform : 75 MPN/100ml.
Economics : Treatment cost comes to Rs. 2.30 per 1000 liters of effluent per day.
Remarks :

It is clearly evident that the pathogenic bacteria in the treated water has been reduced to almost 97 % average. The treated water has been stored in the neighbouring tanks for recharging. They also have bore wells around 300 mts. from the storage point and the water is now being used for external purpose other than drinking application. The quality of the water in the neighbouring farm wells has improved dramatically and is now being used for agricultural applications. The Cattle, Birds and other animals have started consuming the water, which was not the case before. The Panchayat also claims that the birds, which had migrated, have also come back.

Case Study - 03
Location : Restaurant in Mumbai, Maharastra.
Remarks :

Mr. Shetty the owner of the restaurant had to clean up his drainage line every third day, due to the heavy clogs of grease and oil. Before addition of Bioclean, the whole pipeline was cleaned. After Bioclean usage for the past one year he has cleaned the line only twice, because of blockages due to plastic bags .
